The Board of Inquiry into the McCrae landslide will hold further public hearings, on Friday 20 June, Monday 23 June and Tuesday 24 June at the Federal Court of Australia at 305 William Street, Melbourne.

The first block of hearings was held in May.

Hearings provide a valuable opportunity for us to hear from people with information relevant to the Board of Inquiry’s Terms of Reference.

The hearings will be open to the public, but there is limited seating available. Click on the link at the top of this page to watch the hearings remotely. Transcripts of the hearings will also be available.

Applications by interested parties for leave to appear at a hearing should be made in accordance with Practice Direction No. 2 – Leave to Appear (PDF, 230KB). All applications are considered by the Chair, and the Inquiry will respond to all applications received.

Witnesses

A number of non-expert witnesses will give evidence at the second hearing block. The focus will be on the following:

(a) the cause(s) of the landslide;

(b) actions (and any inaction) taken to prevent or mitigate the risk of landslides in McCrae; and

(c) any barriers to implementing measures to prevent or mitigate landslides in McCrae that existed before the landslide.

There will be two final hearing blocks in the weeks of 4 and 18 August 2025. Expert witnesses will give evidence at these hearing blocks in relation to the cause(s) of the landslide and any required measures for the prevention or mitigation of the risk of another landslide occurring.

Further details will be added to this web page in due course.
